Description

A cozy and indulgent drink, Irish coffee combines the rich boldness of coffee with the warmth of Irish whiskey, topped with a silky layer of whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (or maple syrup)
  • 2 cups brewed coffee
  • 2 oz. Irish whiskey
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (plus 1 teaspoon sugar – optional)
  • Chocolate shavings (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cream: In a chilled mixer bowl, pour in the heavy cream (and add sugar if you prefer sweeter cream). Whisk until soft peaks form.
  2. Warm your mugs: Fill two glass coffee mugs with hot water. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes, then pour out the water.
  3. Sweeten up: Add 1 tablespoon of sugar or maple syrup to each mug, letting its sweetness infuse the beverage.
  4. Pour in the hot coffee, stirring gently to dissolve the sugar completely.
  5. Add the smooth whiskey, stirring slightly to blend the flavors.
  6. Top it off: Using a spoon, gently pour the whipped cream over the coffee. Garnish with chocolate shavings.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Whip the cream ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to a few hours. Brew extra coffee and store it in a thermal carafe to keep it hot.
