Description
A cozy and indulgent drink, Irish coffee combines the rich boldness of coffee with the warmth of Irish whiskey, topped with a silky layer of whipped cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups hot water
- 2 tablespoons sugar (or maple syrup)
- 2 cups brewed coffee
- 2 oz. Irish whiskey
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (plus 1 teaspoon sugar – optional)
- Chocolate shavings (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the cream: In a chilled mixer bowl, pour in the heavy cream (and add sugar if you prefer sweeter cream). Whisk until soft peaks form.
- Warm your mugs: Fill two glass coffee mugs with hot water. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes, then pour out the water.
- Sweeten up: Add 1 tablespoon of sugar or maple syrup to each mug, letting its sweetness infuse the beverage.
- Pour in the hot coffee, stirring gently to dissolve the sugar completely.
- Add the smooth whiskey, stirring slightly to blend the flavors.
- Top it off: Using a spoon, gently pour the whipped cream over the coffee. Garnish with chocolate shavings.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Whip the cream ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to a few hours. Brew extra coffee and store it in a thermal carafe to keep it hot.
