Description

A delightful Amish Custard Pie, featuring a buttery crust and creamy custard filling enriched with warm vanilla and a hint of nutmeg.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare your pie crust in a 9-inch pie baking dish.
  3. Beat the eggs until frothy in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Combine sugar, flour, and salt until well mixed.
  5. Whisk in the milk and vanilla until smooth.
  6. Fill the pie crust with the custard mixture.
  7. Sprinkle optional nutmeg on top.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes until set and golden.
  9. Cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider using brown sugar or pre-baking the crust. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
