Description

A velvety smooth and nutty cream cheese frosting that elevates any baked goods with its rich flavor and creamy texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp milk (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Butter: In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir constantly until it turns a beautiful golden brown and develops a nutty aroma. This should take about 4–5 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning! Remove from heat and let it cool slightly while you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. Prep the Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until it becomes smooth and creamy, which usually takes about 2 minutes.
  3. Combine with Brown Butter: Gradually add the cooled brown butter to the cream cheese, mixing on a low speed until well combined.
  4. Add Sugar: Slowly add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until it starts to thicken and is fully incorporated.
  5. Flavor it Up: Stir in the vanilla extract and salt. If the frosting feels too thick, incorporate milk a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  6. Frost and Enjoy: Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes, or store in the refrigerator for later use if needed.

Notes

Make Ahead: This frosting can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for up to one week. Just give it a good beat to regain its creamy texture before using.
