Description
A velvety smooth and nutty cream cheese frosting that elevates any baked goods with its rich flavor and creamy texture.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp milk (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the Butter: In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir constantly until it turns a beautiful golden brown and develops a nutty aroma. This should take about 4–5 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning! Remove from heat and let it cool slightly while you prepare the other ingredients.
- Prep the Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until it becomes smooth and creamy, which usually takes about 2 minutes.
- Combine with Brown Butter: Gradually add the cooled brown butter to the cream cheese, mixing on a low speed until well combined.
- Add Sugar: Slowly add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until it starts to thicken and is fully incorporated.
- Flavor it Up: Stir in the vanilla extract and salt. If the frosting feels too thick, incorporate milk a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
- Frost and Enjoy: Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes, or store in the refrigerator for later use if needed.
Notes
Make Ahead: This frosting can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for up to one week. Just give it a good beat to regain its creamy texture before using.
