Description

An indulgent twist on the classic sloppy joe, featuring ground beef with flavorful Philadelphia cheesesteak elements, served in toasted brioche buns.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 450g lean ground beef
  • 30g butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 230g brown mushrooms, minced
  • 30g ketchup
  • 240ml beef broth
  • 225g provolone cheese, chopped or shredded
  • 6 brioche hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef: In a large skillet, heat the pan over medium-high heat. Add the lean ground beef and cook until it’s nicely browned, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks. Once browned, remove and set aside.
  2. Sauté the vegetables: In the same pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onions, bell peppers, and minced mushrooms. Sauté until they’re beautifully browned and fragrant, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Prepare the sauce: Whisk together the beef broth, ketchup, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Pour this mixture over the sautéed veggies, lowering the heat to a simmer. Cook until the sauce has thickened, approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Combine the beef: Gently return the browned beef to the skillet, mixing it into the vegetable sauce. Stir until everything is well combined.
  5. Melt the cheese: Turn off the heat and stir in the provolone cheese until it melts into the filling.
  6. Toast the buns: Butter each brioche bun lightly and toast them in a separate pan until golden brown.
  7. Assemble to serve: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto the toasted buns and serve warm.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare the beef mixture a day in advance and refrigerate. Reheat while toasting the buns for quick serving.
