- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon orange juice (for glaze)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for glaze)
Instructions
- Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Warm the milk & butter: Gently heat milk and melted butter until warm.
- Mix the dough: Pour warm milk mixture into the bowl with dry ingredients. Add egg, orange juice, and zest. Mix until soft dough forms.
- Knead: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Let it rise: Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Prepare the filling: Roll the dough out, spread softened butter, and sprinkle with sugar. Roll tightly and cut into 12 pieces.
- Second rise: Place rolls cut-side up in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, orange juice, and melted butter for the glaze. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
For a dairy-free option, substitute almond or oat milk and replace the egg with flaxseed egg.
