Description

A vibrant homemade sweet and sour sauce perfect for dipping, glazing, or drizzling over your favorite dishes.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, and ketchup.
  2. Stir gently until the sugar fully dissolves.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water until smooth.
  4. Add the cornstarch slurry to the saucepan, stirring constantly.
  5. Continue to cook for about 3–5 minutes, watching as the sauce thickens.
  6. Finally, stir in garlic powder and onion powder.
  7. Allow it to cool slightly before using.

Notes

This sauce keeps beautifully in the refrigerator for up to one week.
