Traditional Thumb Bars are a delicious and unique treat that combines a buttery crust with a fruity filling, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup fruit preserves (your choice)
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the flour and salt, mixing until just combined.
- Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of a greased 8-inch square baking pan.
- Spread the fruit preserves evenly over the crust.
- Crumb the remaining dough over the top of the preserves.
- If using, sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
Notes
- Feel free to experiment with different flavors of fruit preserves.
- These bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
